It’s easy to understand why the city has long been an inspiration on many fronts, especially when it comes to beauty.
Beauty expert and Naked Beauty podcast host, Brooke DeVard has nailed bottling the effortless nature of Los Angeles life, anchored with a heart of delicate neroli, in her new fragrance called Naked Beauty. In partnership with Modern Magic, a genderless fragrance house who collaborated with DeVard in creating the first Naked Beauty product, the podcast host has managed to execute her ideal scent, meant to be worn every day.
“The market is flooded with ‘date night’ and special occasion perfumes.” Says DeVard “And I really wanted something that could be worn every day. A skin scent that would boost your mood and your confidence.”
The fragrance is inspired by DeVard’s life in Los Angeles which in perfume form, she describes as sitting among orange blossoms, sipping green tea, and taking the time to really exhale. Her aim was to capture that feeling in a bottle: ease, lack of stress, release. Additional notes in the scent include, top notes of bergamot and neroli and heart of orange blossom, green tea and cedarwood and base notes of sandalwood, IsoE super, amber and musk
“I aspired to create a scent that was unlike anything currently available on the market that celebrated neroli—an everyday, wearable fragrance that uniquely adapts to each person who wears it.” Says DeVard. “The Modern Magic team gave me full creative freedom in developing both the scent and the packaging, guiding me through the design process and helping me bring my vision to life.”
Like with her podcast, which is aimed at pushing the beauty conversation forward, advocating for women of color, and breaking down barriers to self-care and wellness, DeVard has created a fragrance that is inclusive and appeals to a wide array of people both in its notes and inspiration. It is at once familiar and completely different and adapts to each wearer in its own unique way.
