Pleasure Principles: An Almanac from the Garden

More than a gardening book, cookbook, or field guide, Pleasure Principles is a celebration of the natural world and a guide to living a more curious, connected, and inspired life.

Across more than 400 pages, the book moves month by month through the seasons, bringing together stories, recipes, rituals, planting and harvesting guides, herbal remedies, scent explorations, mythology, botanical history, and seasonal tasks. Part garden almanac, part field guide, part art book, and part love letter to Mother Nature, it offers endless ways to reconnect with the things we can grow, make, cook, notice, and enjoy.

Inspired by the people, plants, and animals that have shaped the Flamingo Estate garden and orchard on a Los Angeles hillside, the book is richly brought to life through hundreds of original photographs by Hugh Davison, recipes by Chef Sandy Ho, and 28 original oil paintings by John Regan. Design by Aaron Harvey and the Flamingo Estate team brings all of these elements together into a beautiful, tactile reference to return to throughout the year.
