Protect Your Hair from The Drying Elements of the Season.
The air is hot, the water is salty, but that doesn’t mean your hair has to suffer. Between the sun’s UV rays, chlorine used in pools and swelteringly humid air, summer weather offers plenty of challenges for keeping hair hydrated and manageable.
Create a summer hair routine that protects, hydrates and helps you style strands so that no major damage or frustration arises to disrupt carefree and well deserved summer travels.
Like our skin, UV rays and excess sun exposure can weaken the hair shaft and lead to dry, brittle texture and/or fading of hair color. Along with wearing a hat or scarf to protect the hair, spraying a moisturizing hair mist or serum on hair throughout the day can help combat UV damage.
Hair masks are a summer hair routine’s best bet, with a concentrated amount of moisturizing ingredients like coconut oil, shea butter, castor oil and fruit extracts that can penetrate into the hair hydrating from the inside out.
Frizz is often the most frustrating hair concern of summer. The cuticle of curly or textured hair, which tends to be more dry, absorbs moisture from humid air and swells up to create frizz. In addition to using products like a pre-wash, frizz fighting control gel and a potent hair oil, also avoid washing with super hot water which can strip the natural, hydrating oils from hair. Forgo using heat styling tools which damage the cuticle and natural moisture barrier of the hair and lead to frizz. And, try using a soft or microfiber towel to dry your hair. Rough textures can draw moisture away from wet and fragile hair and cause more frizz.
Pulling hair into protective styles using the best tools and accessories is also a great option to not only protect the hair through summer, but also keep strands up and away from the face and body during the hot and humid months.
Try using chic and non-damaging silk hair ties, scarves and wraps that work well while on casually vacation mode as well as they do for a dressed up night out.
